American Horse Adoption operated by Saddlebred Rescue Inc is a 501c3 nonprofit entity that focuses on saving and helping horses in need. The rescue was incorporated in Georgia in 2006 and operations were moved to northern New Jersey shortly thereafter. The rescue is located at the property of Mark and Nealia McCracken at North Wind Stables under a long term agreement for pasture space. Portable stall barns and run in sheds have been either donated to or purchased by the rescue. While some tack, horse blankets and the like have been donated to the rescue over the years the majority of all other equipment and in door space has been and continues to be provided by North Wind Stables. Horses in rehab and/or available for adoption at any one time has ranged from 25-50 with recent averages near 40. As a policy we do not foster out the rescue horses as we believe that their care and evaluation is best done under one roof. The board of directors is located across the country with the officers and executive committee members residing in Georgia and New Jersey. Since 2009 Saddlebred Rescue Inc. has been advised by Dinsmore & Shohl located in Louisville, KY and compliance overseen by accountants Blue & Co in Lexington, KY.
We are a unique horse rescue that was formed in 2006 by professional horse trainers who wanted to give back to the horses and breed, the American Saddlebred, that has meant so much to them in their careers. The rescue was largely born through helping a large population of horses used as driving horses where historically at the end of their driving jobs there were few options for them other than slaughter. We wanted to make a difference. It was the strength and intelligence of this breed that after working with some of the early rescues that they pointed us in the right direction to help as many of these horses as possible. They showed us that with a little help they can make good lesson, practice, trail and personal horses for many people. Add to this a solid nonprofit organization, top notch evaluation and placement programs, applying recommended operating standards through our membership with the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) and a large cadre of supporters, donors and volunteers that we have saved, rescued and placed well over 1200 horses and counting.
The horses are counting on us and we are counting on you. For more information follow us on Facebook and our website at
